    Which Motor Brand Should I Choose?

    Following feedback and requests from our customers we now offer a choice of motor brands on all our roller, day and night and double roller blinds. But which one should you go for?

    Louvolite One Touch System:

    Our go to motor for electric blinds, it features a robust blind motor with an integrated battery that quite simply works whilst offering great value for money.

    The key features of this motor include:

    • Torque of 1.1nM – More than enough to lift even our largest of roller blinds.
    • Battery capacity – This will need charging between 6-9 months on average. This motor is charged with a USB C cable which is included with each blind. 
    • Sound in Decibels of 30dB – Similar to whispering nearby
    • Guarantee – 5 Years

    Somfy Rollup 28 RTS:

    Somfy are the market leaders in motor technology, and we’ve used their proprietary RTS technology for years. It's also an excellent system which is why we continue to offer it. This is ideal if you already have Somfy products and want the new blinds to join an existing array of blinds.

    The key features of this motor include:

    • Compatible with the Somfy Tahoma hub which can then be used with Amazon Alexa and Google Home smart automation products.
      If you want to link your blinds with Apple HomeKit please get in touch as a different motor is required for this integration.
    • Torque of 0.7nM – Still enough to lift even our largest of roller blinds.
    • Battery capacity – This will need charging between 6-9 months on average.
    • Sound in Decibels of 54dB – Similar to the sound of a refrigerator running.

    Our most basic remote but still a stylish option, this clean and simple handset operates a single blind and can be wall mounted to be prevent it getting lost or stolen by one of the small and playful members of the family! You can use this remote to control up to 15 blinds at once.

    This white multi channel remote features the same sleek and stylish styling as our single channel remote but this time is perfect for rooms with multiple blinds that you want to operate individually. Most commonly you would use the first five channels for operating blinds individually and the sixth channel to operate them together, but you can set up any variation you like. A discreet wall mount is also included with this remote.

    Selecting Recess/Fabric/Blind Size

    Please read the guide below and let us know which type of measurement you are providing:

    Recess Size

    Recess Size

    If you want to fit your blind within the window recess as shown above, please provide us with Recess Size measurements.

    To do this you will need to measure inside the window recess from wall to wall for the width and from ceiling to window sill for the drop.

    You should take the measurements three times to make sure you get the most accurate sizes - at the top, at the middle and at the bottom for the width and at the top, the middle and the right for the drop.

    The three sizes to give us are the smallest of the three measurements for both the width and the drop.

    Make sure you do not make any reductions from these sizes yourself. We'll make your blinds slightly smaller on the width than the sizes you give us to make sure that it fits into the space with enough room for it to be installed easily and so the brackets don't scrape the walls, while still covering as much of the window as possible. The adjustment size will differ depending on the type of blind you choose and whether you are adding a cassette to cover the roll - our team will be happy to confirm the reduction amount for you if you advise which blind you are ordering.

    Remember that the width of the fabric will always be slightly less than the total width of the blind to allow for the size of the mechanism and brackets - the difference is usually approximately 3.5cm.

    Fabric Size or Blind Size

    If you want to fit your blind outside of the window recess we recommend overlapping the window by at least 10cm on the width and 10cm on the drop.

    You can then specify whether you want us to use these measurements as the Fabric Size or the Blind Size.

    Fabric Size

    If you choose Fabric Size we will use your measurements as the size of the fabric part of the blind only. This means that the size of the brackets/mechanism/cassette will be in addition to the sizes you provide us - this is usually 3.5cm but our team will be happy to confirm the amount for you before ordering.

    Blind Size

    If you choose Blind Size we will use your measurements as the size of the total blind including the brackets and mechanism (and cassette if ordered). This means that the fabric part of the blind will be slightly smaller than the sizes you provide. The amount of difference varies depending on the type of blind ordered - it is usually 3.5cm but our team will be happy to confirm the amount for you before ordering.

    I had a problem with the electric motor on one blind and was guided through the troubleshooting by Stacey who very patiently talked me through the problems which were largely due to my own installation. The problem appears to have been solved and has probably stopped the whole thing crashing down. I found the team to be very knowledgable and helpful and was advised that if there was a further problem not to hesitate to contact them.

    How To Measure Inside A Window Recess

    Measuring for your new blinds is easy, simply follow the steps below: 

    For fitting inside the window recess: 

    1. Measure the width in 3 places as shown noting down the smallest size in cm.
    2. Measure the drop in 3 places as shown noting down the longest size in cm.
    3. Order using recess size as your measurement and we will make the reductions to ensure the blind fits into this space. 

    Remember:

    • Always use a metal tape measure.
    • Don't make any reductions from your sizes.
    • If you are unsure feel free to call or email us for help. 
    • You can add mismeasurement insurance in the checkout so if you do get it wrong we will fix it for free.

    How To Measure Outside A Window Recess

    Measuring for your new blinds is easy, simply follow the steps below: 

    For fitting outside the window recess: 

    1. We recommend adding at least 10cm either side to overlap the window.
    2. Measure the width in 3 places as shown noting down the largest size in cm.
    3. Measure the drop in 3 places as shown noting down the largest size in cm.
    4. Order using blind size as your measurement if you want the total blind including brackets to be this size. (The fabric will be approximately 3.5cm smaller)
    5. Order using fabric size as your measurement if you want the fabric to be this size. (The brackets will add approximately 3.5cm) 

    Remember:
