Best Types Of Blinds For Patio Doors

Decide whether the blind/s will go Inside or outside recess?

Inside creates a flush look.
Outside allows full door clearance. If your doors open inwards then fitting your blinds outside the recess may be your only option.
Account for the mechanism: If fitting outside the recess add at least 10cm to the width to overlap the space you want to cover.
Remember that any roller blind has a mechanism so when fitting inside the recess there will always be around a 2cm gap between the fabric and the wall of your recess.

Measuring for multiple blinds?

We can make roller blinds all the way up to 280cm wide so you may be able to have one single blind to cover your window.
Depending on the fabric you choose the drop may be limited at wider widths though so sometimes it makes sense to split the window into multiple blinds.
Measure the full space you want to cover and divide by the number of blinds. Then order this as recess sizes to ensure there is space for them all fit next to each other. In the example picture below we would recommend splitting the blind into 3 so that the blind joins are positioned on the transoms to avoid excessive light coming through.

Can I control more than one blind with the same remote?
Yes, you can operate up to 20 electric blinds per remote control on both Louvolite and Somfy systems.
Can I install the blinds myself or do I need a professional?
All of our blinds are aimed at the average DIYer so if you can operate a drill then you can install your blinds yourself. We even offer a drill free solution which can be viewed by clicking here. There is no wiring required so you do not need an electrician to install these blinds.
Are the blinds quiet when operating?
Yes, the Louvolite motor runs at 30dB and the Somfy motor runs at 54dB so are both very quiet solutions.
How often do the blinds need recharging?
This depends on the size of your blinds and how often you use them but as a guide a typical electric patio door blind will need charging around every 6 months if using once per day. If you have split your window into multiple blinds they will need charging less often.
Can I link these blinds to Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit?
Yes, both Louvolite and Somfy motors can be controlled with your chosen smart speaker via their respective home hub or connectivity kit.
Will the Home Hub control blinds in different rooms separately?
Yes, you can program as many scenarios as you need and one home hub is plenty to run a whole house.
What’s the maximum width you can make an electric blind?
280cm is the maximum width we can make a blind, however most fabrics will have a limited drop at this size due to the size of the roll of fabric we use. For the biggest drops possible check out our sunscreen and sheer department as these can be made 280cm wide and typically 200cm or more drop.
